Consultation on Freedom of Religion in Eastern Europe
Welcome to the website of an initiative dedicated to analyzing and supporting freedom of religion in the challenging context of Eastern Europe. Our mission is to promote interfaith dialogue, protect the rights of believers, and strengthen democratic values despite the challenges posed by armed conflicts, political pressure, and internal church crises.

We organize international consultations, such as the Berlin and Rome meetings, where leading theologians, historians, human rights advocates, and lawyers from various countries discuss pressing issues of religious freedom. These events not only provide deeper insights into the current situation but also help develop practical recommendations for addressing these challenges.

Our main areas of work include:

State-Church Relations in the Context of War:

Analysis of the interaction between the state and religious organizations in the context of armed conflict, including issues of security, human rights, and the prevention of discrimination.

Mechanisms for Protecting Freedom of Religion:

Examination of legal, social, and political tools that contribute to protecting everyone’s right to freedom of belief and religious practice.

The Crisis of Orthodox Ecclesiology and Ways to Overcome It:

Discussion of the causes of doctrinal and structural disagreements within Orthodox Churches and the search for new models of church governance that address contemporary challenges.

Challenges and Perspectives for Orthodoxy in a Multi-Confessional Environment:

Examination of issues related to identity, jurisdictional disputes, and the adaptation of Orthodox communities in the context of cultural and religious diversity.

The Role of International Law in Regulating Religious Conflicts:

Research on the application of international standards and court decisions to resolve religious disputes and prevent violations of believers’ rights.
We aim to promote the fair resolution of religious conflicts based on respect for human rights, democratic principles, and spiritual values. On our website, you will find key documents, analytical materials, and recommendations developed during our consultations.
Join us in building a peaceful and just future
for all religious communities in the region.
Supporting Democratic Values:
Together, we defend the right to freedom of religion as a fundamental part of democracy.
Resolving Complex Conflicts:
We offer practical solutions for resolving religious and cultural disputes through dialogue and legal frameworks.
International Experience and Expertise:
Our participants are leading experts from various countries, ready to share their knowledge and experience.
Strengthening Interfaith Peace:
We create a space for open communication and mutual understanding between different religious communities.
Human Rights Protection:
Our initiative is aimed at protecting the rights of every believer, regardless of their religion.
Contributing to Regional Stability:
Through joint efforts, we contribute to the creation of a harmonious society free from discrimination and violence.
